The Rape of the Sabine Women, bronze-coated statue by Giambologna

Hand-crafted, bronze-finished resin statue detailed in every minor aspect. This famous sculpture, carved by Giambologna (1529-1608) and on display in the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence, Italy, on the Piazza della Signoria, depicts a young man lifting a woman above his head while a desperate old man is squeezed between his legs (this statue is also known as "the three ages of man"). The sculpture recalls the event in ancient Roman mythology when Roman men collectively abducted young women from the towns of the surrounding Italian regions.
