"Cupid and Psyche" is one of sculptor Antonio Canova's most famous statues, created between approximately 1787 and 1793, and is currently exhibited at the Louvre Museum in Paris, while a second version (by the same sculptor) can be seen at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. This highly elegant and sensual statue depicts Psyche, a mortal woman whose exceptional beauty is comparable to that of Venus, embracing her husband, Cupid, even though she is unaware of his identity, as Cupid only appears in the darkness of the night.
