"Cupid and Psyche" is one of the most famous works by sculptor Antonio Canova, created between approximately 1787 and 1793, and is currently exhibited at the Louvre in Paris, while a second version (by the same sculptor) can be seen at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. This extremely elegant and sensual sculpture depicts Psyche, a mortal woman of such exceptional beauty that she is comparable to Venus, embracing her husband, Cupid (Love), even though she does not know who she is embracing, as Cupid only appears to her in the darkness of the night.
