What a tide clock shows
It does not measure time, but the tidal cycle: the hand completes a rotation in approximately 12 hours and 25 minutes, as this is the time elapsed between two high tides. Anglers, sailors, and beachgoers use them at the seaside - at home, it is more of a curiosity that requires explanation, which is exactly why it makes a great conversation piece.
