The warm, medium-brown version

Walnut is a classic wood material in European cabinetmaking: it has a warmer, reddish-brown tone than ebony. This board captures that look—it is less dramatic than the dark version, but fits much more easily with traditional wooden furniture, bookshelves, and coffee tables.

What kind of pieces suit it

For the medium-brown base, wooden and brass pieces look best. With very dark figures, it is worth considering whether there will be enough contrast—in that case, the ebony-effect board is the safer choice.
