What is a half-model

The half-model was a tool of the shipbuilding trade: the designer would carve the longitudinal section of the hull to check the lines before the ship was built. The finished pieces were then hung on the walls of the shipyard office. From there, it became an interior design element.

For the wall, not the shelf

At only 5 cm deep, it hangs on the wall much like a picture – it fits in narrow hallways, above doors, or behind a desk, where a full ship model would not.
