Florentine Renaissance, 15th-century gilded chess set

Unique chess set, made of bronze using the lost-wax casting process, finished with genuine 24-karat gold. Each piece is signed by the sculptor. The chessboard is made of onyx and bronze, with a bronze and genuine gold frame. The Renaissance, before becoming the historical era that completely permeated the 15th and 16th centuries, was a new spirit that first unfolded in Italy and then spread widely across the world, laying the foundations of modern European civilization. The desire for political renewal, as well as the "studia humanitatis" and the return to the art of the ancients, were the first and most striking manifestations of a complex phenomenon; new religious, social, philosophical, and political ideals were clarified, and a new civilization based on the glory of the past took its first steps.
