Medieval gilded chess set

Unique chess set, made of bronze using the lost-wax casting process, finished with genuine 24-karat gold. Each piece is signed by the sculptor. The chessboard is made of onyx and bronze, with a bronze and genuine gold frame. The Middle Ages was the historical period following the fall of the Western Roman Empire, which lasted until the end of the 15th century. It is traditionally dated to 476 AD, the year Odoacer deposed the last Western emperor, Romulus Augustulus, while its end is associated with the discovery of America. The Early Middle Ages were characterized by barbarian kingdoms, the founding of the Holy Roman Empire, and the triumph of feudal society; the Late Middle Ages, by contrast, brought about the formation of free communes, from the crisis of feudalism to the rise of the Italian signori.
