The halberd
The halberd was a characteristic weapon of the 14th–16th centuries: an axe, spear, and hook on a single shaft. It was wielded by foot soldiers, and it was precisely its versatility that kept it in use for two centuries. Today, it is known as the ceremonial weapon of the Vatican Swiss Guard.
