Poseidon (Neptune in Roman mythology) is the god of the sea and all waters, including sea earthquakes, tsunamis, and storms. In ancient literature, he is known as a friend to man, for instance when he aided the Greeks against the Trojans in Homer's Iliad. He is the son of Cronus and the brother of Zeus, king of the gods.
