Sigurd, the mythological king of the Nibelungs, gilded chess set

Unique chess set, made of bronze using the lost-wax casting process, finished with genuine 24-karat gold. Each piece is signed by the sculptor. The chessboard is crafted from onyx and bronze, with a bronze and genuine gold frame. The "Nibelungenlied" (Song of the Nibelungs) was arguably the most significant medieval Germanic epic, believed to have been composed by a Bavarian priest in the first half of the 13th century. The elements and characters of the poem are partly fantastic, partly legendary, and partly historical. It recounts the heroic deeds of Siegfried, who acquires the treasure of the Nibelungs—a fantastic race of dwarves. This cycle of legends became famous throughout Europe in the 19th century when Richard Wagner made it the subject of his tetralogy, "Der Ring des Nibelungen."
