Unique chess set, made of bronze using the lost-wax casting process, finished with 24-karat gold. Each piece is signed by the sculptor. The chessboard is crafted from onyx and bronze, with a bronze and gold frame. The chairs are made of bronze with soft velvet seats. The great "Sun King" began his absolute and personal rule in France in the second half of the 17th century with the assistance of his ministers. The kingdom expanded, acquiring Alsace, Flanders, and Franche-Comté, but Louis XIV’s ambitious will was also fully manifested in domestic policy: he increasingly centralized the power of the monarchy, persecuted Protestants and Jansenists, and fought for the autonomy of the Gallican Church from the papacy. His name is closely intertwined with the culture of his age, which he encouraged by founding academies and patronizing the arts, not to mention the splendor of the Versailles court. He worked hard enough to make his reputation inextricably linked to the era in which he lived—which the French rightly call the "Age of Louis XIV" or the "Grand Century."
